Biography

Alexander is a Manchester-based harpist, composer and multi-disciplinary artist.

He holds a BA (hons) in Music from the University of York and an MA in Music (composition) from the University of Sussex under professor Martin Butler. He studied the harp in London with Gabriella dall’Olio (Head of Harp Studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance) and Helen Sharp (teacher of harp, Royal Holloway University of London), before completing his Masters in Performance at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo) in the harp class of internationally renowned pedagogue Isabelle Perrin.

He has been a finalist of the World Harp Competition (Netherlands), the North London Competition (UK) and a two-time finalist of the USA International Harp Competition Ruth Inglefield Composers’ Competition. His work as a composer has been shortlisted for the BFI London Film Festival, the Shout Festival of Arts and Culture and showcased at the 2026 World Harp Congress in Toronto, Canada.

Over a career of almost twenty years he has performed at most of the major UK concert halls as well as internationally in Paris, Tuscany, Berlin, Oslo, Mumbai and more. He has performed on BBC Radio and his work has been broadcast on Channel 4. He has performed his own work in residency at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Brighton Fringe Festival, the Roundhouse (Camden) and the Soho Theatre (London).

Alexander’s work has spanned a whole swath of genres, in orchestra, opera, theatre and recital, both in the recording studio and on stage. He has worked with various touring and recording artists as diverse as The Unthanks, A.R. Rahman, Rick Wakeman and Alex James and his private corporate clients have included Snapchat, Christian Louboutin, MALIN+GOETZ, Liberty of London, H&M, Berkeley Group, Marriott and Renaissance Hotels. Today he regularly performs with ensembles such as Manchester Concert Orchestra, London Concertante and the Hallé.

Alexander plays a stunning Camac harps Art Nouveau and an antique Lyon and Healy Style 22 built in Chicago in 1918. The latter was owned by former Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra principal En Hudson, Thelma Owen and Tina Bonifacio, Sir Thomas Beecham’s harpist in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. As an artist, he has a special interest in personal storytelling and combining the arts of poetry and music in performance.
