Alexander studied flute, saxophone, composition and singing throughout his childhood before taking up the harp at 19 during his undergraduate degree in music at the University of York. He gained a Masters degree in Music Composition from the University of Sussex with Martin Butler and studied harp for many years with Gabriella dall’Olio and Helen Sharp, as well as for shorter periods with Claire Iselin, Sylvain Blassel, Rachel Masters and Bryn Lewis.
In 2011 Alexander composed the music for a new show - Berlinernacht - staged as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival.
Alexander received a scholarship in 2013 to study composition at the St Magnus Festival with Sally Beamish and Alasdair Nicholson.
He worked with Morphic Graffiti on their critically acclaimed production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel at the Arcola Theatre in London in 2015.
In 2018 Alexander collaborated with comedian and broadcaster Jack Rooke on his comedy-storytelling piece Love Letters, in a special commission by Latitude Festival and The Roundhouse, Camden.
Alexander has toured the UK with the Unthanks and Rick Wakeman and performed live several times on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3.
He still enjoys composing and arranging chamber music and works for solo harp.
Alexander has provided entertainment for premiership footballers, celebrities, Snapchat, Liberty of London, and in many of the major London hotels - the Four Seasons at Ten Trinity Square, the Sanderson, the Renaissance St Pancras, the Waldorf Hilton and the Marriott Park Lane. He has performed on Tuscan hillsides, in Manchester pubs, in several department stores, the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Notting Hill Arts Club, The Ivy, on the streets of Brighton.. the list is varied and endless!
Alexander has been principal harpist of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and resident at Sherborne (formerly Canford) Summer School of Music with it’s Symphony Orchestra for many years. He freelances across London and the UK as an orchestral harpist and soloist.
